Within Kelantan are some of the fascinating beaches, among which Pantai Cahaya Bulan near the state capital of Kota Bharu is the most famous. Pantai Cahaya Bulan is a popular destination for picnics, camping as well as recreation.
The Pantai Dasar Sabak beach nearby was the initial landing point of the Japanese Imperial Army in Malaya during World War II. Other than this historical significance, Pantai Dasar Sabak is also an ideal location for swimming and sunbathing.
15km from Kota Bharu, Kuala Besar is a picturesque fishing village where tourists can see the freshly caught fishes being dried under the hot sun as well as fishermen repairing their nets or boats along the beach. The tranquil environment here makes it a perfect hideaway from the hustle and bustle of city life.
One of the most scenic beaches in the state, Pantai Irama lies 25km from the town of Kota Bharu. The other excellent beaches in the state include Pantai Bisikan Bayu and Pantai Seri Tujuh near the Thai border. The latter is also famous for the annual International Kite Festival.
Going to Pantai Cahaya Bulan
Malaysia Airlines flies daily from Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor Bahru to Kota Bharu.
From Kota Bharu town, one can take a bus or taxi to many of the adjacent seaside resorts.
Train passengers, meanwhile, should alight at either Wakaf Baru or Tumpat and transfer to a bus or taxi for Kota Bharu town.
Coach services to Kota Bharu are also available from major towns in West Malaysia and Singapore.
